02 s80 t6 surging under acceleration
Hello, I have an 02 s80 t6. When I bought it it was still under the factory warrantee. I am a diesel mechanic and have a good understanding of forced induction. During the test drive I found under hard acceleration the car began to surge. It was smooth and timed. You could tell the computer was controlling it. But I could not believe that a car would be built to surge and provide such hard then light acceleration a wot positions. It almost seemed unsafe as well as unrefined. So the dealer sent it to Volvo to check it out. Volvo said it was normal for a t-6. I am curious if anyone has a t-6 and if it does that. Mine trips no codes and otherwise runs 100%. Thank

Sounds like an ETM to me. It's an official recall item now.

Come to find out after reading the link about the s60 with the same problem I broke down and spent the 47.50 and bought the turbo control valve. It installed in 5 mins flat and the problem is 100% gone. To anyone with a turbo volvo giving this issue, its well worth the 50 bucks to see if it goes away. It's like driving a whole new car.
I had the same problem with my 2002 T6 (26,500 miles) and the dealer fixed the problem by upgrading the ETM. Mine would surge under steady increasing throttle. It acting like I was "pumping" the accelerator pedal. I did not have any codes. Also, a whole host of Fuel and Ignition Systems parts are covered under the 2002 Emission Warranty Parts list for 8 years or 80,000 miles.lanceair4p wrote:Hello, I have an 02 s80 t6.
