This is probably a stupid question but how do you remove the rear drive shaft from the transmission side.. I reoved the cross member and can see the bolts but I can't get a socket on the nuts and a wrench doesn't seem to work... Do I loosen them from the bolt side? Is there a special tool or may be thin walled socket.. Any advice will help because I don't want to screw it up..
thanks, Larry

If it is like the 97 I have the head of the bolt is a 15mm and the nut is 17mm. I used the box end of the 15mm to hold the bolt and loosen the nut with a socket. If this helps.

I think my previous post got deleted or something.. I guess I'll have to get a deep socket because a shallow one didn't get totally on the nut. They seem to be in a pocket or something that prevents the socket from going all the way on. Maybe a deep socket will work... thanks.

It shouldn't make any difference, as far as 960 or 940. 2 wrenches should work, you would have to work it a little more that way, I usually use a socket with about a 6" extension and a wrench.

This is crazy.. you would think it was easy but I can't get a socket on the nut. It's in a pocket or something where you where it won't let a socket all the way down on the nut. The wall of the socket is too big. I'll try an extension but I don't think it'll work. The housing is in the way too. I'm usually pretty mechanically minded but this has got me stumped.. Thanks for the input...

Got them off. I think the previous person that had the drive shaft apart put the bolts on backwards. The 17mm nut was towards the transmission. In any event with the help of my lovely wife we got them off.. Had to use a breaker bar and a 6" extension on the 15mm side to get them off.. Thanks for all the suggestions..
