another pcv question.

Post by bigdawg74 »

I have a 1999 Volvo s70 t5 and it is showing signs of needing a pcv sytem change, it has oil on the top of the engine, I live in Canada so it might be a week or 2 before I get the parts and a few weeks before I get the time to do the job. I was wondering if I took the dipstick out and put a hose on it running to a filter if it would prevent any further damage until I get it fixed right.

It is likely that the PCV is clogged at this point, you are also looking at replacing front and rear intake and exhaust cam seals. Ignition rotor, spark plug, and wires in next 12 months.

Or it could just be the weak rubber seal in oil cap. Replace it first for few bucks.

What makes you think it is in need of service, other than the oil on top of the motor?

The glove test is at about 6:00 in this video.

Hello. Where is the oil on top of engine at ? I had oil leaking from the top of mine running down the back on drivers side. thought I needed pcv service. Come to find out the oil was leaking under sparkplug cover , pooling up and leaking. The leak was caused by a loose 10mm bolt on top of valve cover that was only finger tight. Take a look .

it is the pcv that is pluged, what I would like to know is if there is something that I can do to prevent further damage until I receive the parts to fix it right because I still need the car to get to work ,I will be able to do the job in about 2 weeks.i pulled the timing cover off to check what tensioner I haves and there was no oil on the timing belt,

It provides vacuum at idle to the PCV hose @ the turbo.

If you don't have an oil seal leak you are probably ok. Just don't put your foot in it and replace the PCV as soon as you can.
