I was halfway through a 3 hour drive to mid coast Maine when I heard a loud metal scraping sound. It scared the crap out of me! I thought that something had just broken off under my car or the tailgate window had crashed out. When I got to a rest stop I looked under the car but everything seemed normal. Then I open the tailgate and my tonneau cover is all droopy. It had been fine forever but I guess something inside let go and the spring recoiled which made that loud noise. I couldn't help but laugh at that point. Tomorrow's a holiday, good time for an indoor project.
Had my cargo cover sitting in the closet for a couple months, and went to reinstall it today (wife going to teach in a B-more neigborhood known for its "break a window and grab" thieves). The damn thing won't retract after pulling it out, and now I am here.
I read your FAQ rspi, and it makes enough sense to attempt. How well is yours holding up, with the plastic instead of copper piping?
I will be giving it a go tonight hopefully - I can do nuts and bolts, but I hate working on interior plastic.
Thanks
Michael
