04 V70 Rear brake light

Message is on in the dash- smack it and light comes on- busted up both knuckles getting the bulb out- scuffed up the contacts- that's not it. Bulb keeps failing to light up- worse in colder or wet weather. Any ideas?

Maybe check wires around the rear hatch

Yep- do you know how to get to them? The thing is when I smack right over where the light is out the light comes back on but only until the first bump then it's out again- a real pain in the _\_ spot- you have to take the speaker out to even get to the bulb holder and it's a tight knuckle scraping task at that unless someone can share things I don't know.

Take the speaker out then remove the trim from around the D pillar, this will offer far better access to get at the rear of the light cluster to check for loose wires or an errant bulb holder. I doubt it will have anything to do with the tailgate wiring as the center brake light (in the tailgate) is fed from a totally different point to the side mounted brake lights.
There is a wiring diagram I posted in This Thread recently along with a write up of how the circuit works, it might be worth having a look at that - Mike

reminds me of how Mine was when I left the lot. I ended up pulling the trim off to save my meat hooks. ended up being the blue relay in the REM. I opened it and cleaned it for my problem.

It shouldn't break... but do NOT do all this in the cold when the plastic becomes hard and brittle and then can crack the tabs quite easily.

could be a bad circuit board in the light just replaced my rt rear lwr assembly for the same reason.

Where is the circuit board? I won't do this until it warms for the reasons above and also because I'm lazy rignt now...eating turkey and all... Oh, and I have bigger fish- see my post in the '99 car having cyilinder misfire issues- I'm in the same boat on my S70 and need to fix this- the ride is horrible!

The circuit board is part of the light. You have to replace the whole assembly. similar to GM pickup truck design. Volvos come in an upper & lower assembly. got mine upper & lower used for $100.00 shipped. Mine kept blowing fuses that's what sent me in the direction of the circuit board. If needed look up Erie VOVO near Utica,NY they are awesome for used Volvo parts. I deal with Adam.
