Highly doubt I have a faulty hazard switch. I took it out today and the lights stayed on just the same. I think this is alarm related.

HELP ..lol... :( :(

?????I think the alarm relay might be the culprit??????

Alarm relay perhaps?

Someone told me the 850's don't do anything with the turn signals when locked. I don't know, but the S70 does.

In this case, remove the big relay on the 2nd row from the bottom under the dash. Hitting it with something still may make it work again if this cause the lights to go off.

The fact that you've also lost turn signals and headlamps, and removing the hazard switch has no effect leads me to believe the turn signal switch in the steering column may be at fault. It is the one thing all three systems have in common. Try to unplug it and see if the lights turn off. If not, you'll to break out the meter and wiring diagrams and figure out what's shorted to power keeping these light on.

Good Luck

Mr.Someone is wrong...lol...my 850s(both of them) engage the turn signals if the alarm is ever activated.

I took out the anti theft relay and BOOM...all my lights are back to normal. I believe the culprit is the anti theft relay. I'll swap the one on my other 850 tomorrow...and see what happens....

Too bad the car doesn't start or run without the anti theft relay.

Thanks alot Justin!!!

Is there any way to easily disable the anti-theft function on my 850....so In other words run the car without the anti theft relay.

I sort of don't want to buy a relay...even if it is $10...I don't think it does much good anyways

THANK YOU!!!

On an 850 you can just remove relay 210/211 and put a jumper wire between the the socket positions associated with pins 50E and 50F on the 210 side of the relay. Volvo sells a dummy 210 relay that will plug in but I think it exceeds your $10.00 budget.

A couple of spade lugs ands a chunk of wire will do the same thing.

:!: :!: PROBLEM SOLVED! :!: :!:

Thank you very much to everyone who helped me fix this.

The solution was quite simple ...pulled out the anti-theft relay from under the dash....put it back in and no more crazy light problems.

I actually just came back from the hardware store with the supplies to jumper the 50E and 50F on the terminals. I will have to return those!!! :D :D

I smelled the relay(last night) and it almost smelled like burnt plastic...just a hint...lol...so that's why I thought I needed a new relay...it didn't smell like the other 2 relays I smelled

Since drugs aren't my style....I guess I have to sniff something

It was VERY tight under there....by the way

Anyhow... Thanks again amigos!!

Hi
I have a similar problem with my 98 xc70
The hazard light would make that clicking sound at random moments over the past 8 months, it didn't flash, just the sound for a few minutes.
Well last week i noticed my turn signal wasn't working, no sound, no flashing anywhere. Then i noticed the hazard weren't working, nor the high beams.
So i bought a new hazard switch, put it in, no change.
Any ideas on a next step? anti theft relay?
