94 850 seat pad heater problems

Hello,

I know there is not a whole lot of info around the web regarding replacing your burnt out heating pad in your volvo seat. Last year I found the heating pad on FCP and purchased it with the mindset to install it this summer so it would be ready for the winter time. My 850 is now just my winter car for me now and I have yet to get around to it.

From what I remember reading, it wasnt the element that usually went bad, but the thermostat itself which would cause the heating pad element to burn out. I do not want to just throw in a 75$ pad in there if my thermostat is bad and will just cause this issue again.

My problem is if it is the thermostat I have no clue where to obtain one, would anyone happen to know of a source of one that I could buy. I would love to get my seat heater working again but only if I can do it correctly.

Also would anyone know where if there is any good documentation of a DIY seat pad replacement out there on the web?

I wrote a guide on fitting seat heater mats to an S60 with plenty of pictures which can be found Here it should show you how to take the seats to bits as the 850 won't differ too much in how the seat covers are attached to the seat.

Take care though with the airbag trigger which is mechanical on the 850 (assuming the seats have SIPS airbags fitted) I would try to tywrap the safety lock ring to the initiator so it can't fall off before taking the seat out of the car - On the S60 the seats are fired electrically so I didn't have to deal with that issue - Mike

The '94 850 seats do not have SIPS.
