2001 Volvo S60 T5 Squeaking grinding noise from engine

Post by zachzacharyzak »

My Volvo S60 automatic makes a random squeaking and grinding noise randomly. I have had the car for about 8 months and it has happened 3 times. It will do it first do it at idle then when i rev it up it stops at idle and only does it at higher rpms. It seems that its coming from the starter and flywheel area.

When i drove it to the stealership it stopped as soon as i pulled it into the parking lot. Its about an hour away too. They said they couldn't find the problem except that when they looked at the crank position sensor it had metal shavings on it. Not much help obviously. I know how it is though. Problem occurs until you go to get it fixed or diagnosed.

It does have transmission problems. The usual Volvo S60 transmission problems. It has been rebuilt but its still had the problems after. (before i owned the car) I'm just looking to see if anyone else has had this problem. I've searched everywhere and can never find it (hopefully not everywhere) :| .

I know it is not the flame trap. No check engine light. VIDAS doesn't pull up anything for it and it does not effect performance. I was finally able to get a video of it. You can really hear the sound very well when it starts back up.

something inside of that engine isn't where it's supposed to be...how does the oil look? oil pressure readings?

Oil is almost brand new no abnormality to it. Oil pressure is good

I was going to say maybe the starter is eating the flywheel teeth. I've already read a few people having this issue, but I don't know if that's the noise. I think you can check by removing the starter and watching the fw by the hole.
