2004 s40 engine smell in cabin

Post by obx338 »

2004 s40 170k miles. At a stop the smell is coming into the cabin, the smell is of oil/exhaust. If I turn the fan off it does not smell. It does not happen after the car is in motion again. If it is the PCV does anyone have instructions to test and or replace?

My V40 had the same smell. It was definitely PCV related. A good way to test is open the oil filler cap with the engine running and place your palm over the filler neck. Should feel a slight suction, if it's blowing the PCV isn't doing its job.
