After replacing my radiator on my Volvo S70 T5, I found myself with an idling problem. When I hit the gas, the rpms drop to about 400. My car was running great before but I think I may have pulled a hose by mistake taking out the radiator.

I found a purple hose behind the fan with an elbow attached to the end that is unattached to anything. I have searched photos and videos to see if I can get a glimpse of where it goes without any luck. Can any S70 T5 owners lend me a hand on the whereabouts this purple hose needs to be connected to? A picture would be very helpful. Thank you.

You can check my PCV video because I'm not sure which hose you are referring to without a picture.

Chances are, you have a gross leak at one of the intake tubes. Check them real good. Take them off and put them back on if you have to.

The purple hose is part of the SAS system, it connects from the SAS valve (on the exhaust) to a switched valve up at the fan shroud. I can't give you a pic because I deleted SAS on my Volvos ... but if you search on that you may be able to find a pic.

Thanks for the reply. The purple hose you have in the picture is it. Under the shroud I found a switch that has a white hose, that comes from the throttle box and a connector attached. It also had an empty pin spot to which I have attached the purple hose. Is that you have it connected?

Tried starting it and it still stalls when I accelerate from idle. I must has done something when pulling in or out the radiator. I can get the car to run by unplugging the MAF,(which I thought was my initial issue so I replaced it with a new one since I am at 150,000 miles and reset the ECU), so next I am going to carefully look around to see if there is anything that I may have disconnected and try the carburetor cleaner trick to find any other leaks. Is there any area or vacuum hose that can produce such an effect on the engine to zone into more carefully?. Thanks again.

Robert, big fan of your videos. I've done several of your repairs on my Volvo, and commented them under my name Sebastian. Seeing your video on the radiator install gave me the knowledge and comfort to do this myself over the long holiday. All went smooth until after 15 minutes taking my car out for a test drive. I would accelerate and the rpms would drop to 400. I must have dislodged something. Keep up the great work on the videos!

I am not sure about the hoses at the switch under the shroud, sounds reasonable. I would check the vacuum hose diagram.

I agree what you describe sounds like a vacuum leak, keep looking. How about the elbow on the intake manifold, behind the PS pump, is that one on?

Found out that I do have the purple hose connected to the right spot. Next comes the vacuum leak test. Can't believe i am having problems after just replacing the radiator. What's worse, is that I have to drive my wife's Murano to work tomorrow!

Where is your idle control valve?

Follow the intercooler hose up to the tube it connects to. It is so easy to get one of those hoses loose and not see it. I seen one loose the other day, the turbo wasn't boosting good.
