1996 850 R and the C70 subframe assembly

Post by guidowitz »

I have searched the forum to no avail looking for information about swapping a C70 subframe assembly and putting it on my 850. I hear this is a good upgrade to stiffen the frontend.

Who has done this? Why did you do this?

My mechanic says you can buy the C70 subframe new at a decent price.

Where should I look for this?

Is it worth it?

Sorry for all the questions, but inquiring minds want to know!

Happy post Thanksgiving!

You want a C70 convertible subframe. Those have no bushings since that acts to let subframe give a great deal of torsional rigidity to chassis needed when there is no fixed roof.

It is a direct fit with the only issue being whether your original controls will fit. I'm fairly certain the subframe is serviced as as bolt inner control mount and your 850 could be bushing through bolt LCAs.
It would only mean getting new LCAs and you need those anyway.
