1996 Volvo 850 Mann Oil Filters Brazil Now?

Post by jonesboy1983 »

Sorry if this has been discussed before I could not find anything in a search. I got a package of Mann Filters from IPD today for my 850. One of them was the old German made Mann filters I'm used to but the other two have a gnarled bottom and say made in BA on them. Does anyone know about this? Same model number W917. Did they change the design in any other way?

Mann is very reputable.

Mann has factories in many countries: Mexico, Brazil etc.

Yup, some of the W917 Mann filters I buy locally at NAPA say Mexico and others Germany. Have not seen any difference in quality.

Thanks. I guess I was more concerned that the design seemed to change as far as having the gnarled bottom inch that I had never seen before on a Mann Filter. Well hopefully will make them easier to grip!

Same thing when it comes to ipd sway bar endlinks. The regular ones were made in Turkey with the Germany approval sticker and the IPD HD swaybar endlinks which were $35 extra each were made in Taiwan?? I love my European cars but what gives.

The difference between Brazil and Germany is Brazil will host the World Cup and Germany will hoist the World Cup...in 2014

Is it white?BA is not Brazil...it's Bosnia & Herzegovina  :

Last time i changed oil & filter on my 850 i ordered Mann w917 and instead of being Made in Germany it was Made in Bosnia & Herzegovina and instead of being blue...it was white. :?

No problem with it so far,but i'm sceptic about it.

For my other car ('91 Citroen Xm),Mann oil filter is blue and it's made in Germany.

Just reporting my experience.... I recently bought a three-pack of Mann W917 filters and drain plug rings from IPD and they are definitely labeled on the box as having been made in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with "BA" printed on the side of the filter.
