98 s70 t5 Oil in cylinder number 2

Post by volvospeeds70 »

So,

Recently I started having problems with the top torque mount bushing. After replacement, everything back together and car starts up fine. Still vibration when applying brake, with new bushing. Aside from that, after driving 6 miles, check engine light starting flashing. After checking, cylinder 2 misfire. Then when I took boot of from spark plug, puddle of oil in the chamber.

I have been running 5w30 full synthetic mobile 1 oil, this time I changed oil, while changing bushing, with regular 20w50(hoping it would slow the RMS leak). PCV system was recently changed back in march and oil filler cap seal was replaced as of June.

Any suggestions on why there would be oil in the spark plug cylinder? also car seems to run a little rough, don't know why. my guess, I think I put too heavy oil. I'm going to change that right now and post results soon.

The owners manual WARNS against using oil heavier than 15W-40. I would not have jumped that high. Maybe 10W-40 is what you should try.

Is there oil on top of the cam cover? Maybe oil went down into the spark plug hole from the top. If not, the seal on the cam cover may be broken, top of head and cover.

there is no oil on top cam cover. i cleaned the spark plug and there is no more oil, as of yet. I'm changing oil back to 5w30 right now, and hopefully that will solve it.

I don't like 5w-30, I think it's a little on the thin side. I would run 10W-30 (what we run in my daughters S70 GLT) or 10W-40 (what I use in my car).

How old are the wires? Switch wires with another cylinder, total switch, plug end and distributor end and see if the mis moves to another cylinder, yes, bad wire, no, maybe a bad cap. Check inside cap for oil and the seal may have let go. Run a compression test.
FWIW, 10/40 synthetic in my 98 V70 has been great. Even the cheapish Walmart brand is fine.

I will try that today. I just recently changed wires about 15k miles ago and plugs too. Oil cap seal has been replaced around 15k also. the pvc system around that time too. I do have a RMS leak, pretty bad. My car stays lil past normal on the temp guage, so maybe that overtime messed up the head gasket.
