what is this part?

What is the part/system of parts located directly under the air intake hose right where the air enters the front of the vehicled. It is screwed into the radiator. The bottom side has what looks to me as a vacuum line going into it and the other. It has an electrical component on the inside and then it routes to the exhaust manifold on the other end as well as the vacuum tree with a yellow and black vacuum lines I believe. If no one knows I can post a pic. Thanks in advance. dave

EGR Vacuum Controller, thats what your describing to me. For a second I thought it was the EVAP purge valve.

ohh... im sorry for not reading that other post. anyways thanks for the response. My car is a 1994 850 turbo with 190 000km's on it. I see that my EGR Vacuum Controller seems really beat up. The rubber housing is all broken and the vacuum tube that comes into the bottom side had fallen out. I reinserted it but I'm not sure about the functionality. Im am getting terrible gas mileage atm... could this be one of my problems? other than the gas mileage of about 15 miles per gallon the car is running great.

Yeah, get the hoses fixed and make sure the EGR system is fully funcional...should improve gas mileage too. While you're at it, also check the other vacuum hoses.
