1994 850 Turbo Collapsing Air Hose

Post by TWMn »

Hi all,
I have a new issue that just started today with our subzero and single digit temperatures this week. Car is parked outside. No power at all when putting car in drive or reverse (feels like a limp mode, although I don't think the 850 has this). No CEL. Thought it was tranny related but noticed collapsing (intercooler?) air hose at top of radiator where it goes from rigid plastic to rubber. It opens back up when engine is shut off. It collapses under throttle in neutral or when putting car in gear. Engine starts and idles OK with no collapse. Only when under throttle. Frozen intercooler?

Thanks for your thoughts in advance. Wish to repair just to get it to the shop for permanent fix. Not driveable now due to no power so would have to tow.

Check the lower hose to make sure there is no ice in it clogging it.

Chances are the intercooler weep hole is clogged up and the intercooler iced up. If you can get a heater under the intercooler you might be able to thaw it out. If you have anyone close by with a heated garage that you can impose you can unhook the hose from the intercooler to the to the throttle body and drive it. It will run like crap but it will drive as long as you don't try to accelerate hard.
