Engine type will be a B4204T3 or a B4204T4 if its a 1948cc 4 cylinder.
Shows on the ID plate fixed on the firewall with the VIN number

OK so I found the engine type. It wasn't on the I'd plate on the firewall, it was on a sticker on the hood. The engine type is listed as B4204T, but no 3 or 4. So what does that mean?

Okay.
The alternative location should be a white sticker affixed to the side of the cambelt cover.
(In your case being the passenger side, front end of the engine.)
Immediately adjacent to the black power steering reservoir.
Mine shows B4204 T3. above that is the engine block serial number.

Found this from a post in another forum.
It may help you?
To carry on from Gmain's post... as a rule of thumb the early phase 1 T4 had the 1855cc unit with the phase 2 having the 1948cc unit, both T4 engines producing 200bhp/147Kw.
Phase I
1998 - B4194T = 1855cc (high pressure turbo)
1999 to 2000 - B4194T2 = 1855cc (hpt)
1998 to 2000 - B4204T 1948cc (low pressure turbo)
Phase II
2001 to 2003 - B4204T5 = 1948cc (hpt)
2001 to 2003 - B4204T3 = 1948cc (lpt)
