The Dreaded P0014 Timing Over Advanced trouble code
Ok I have a 14 tear old S40 this is a chronic and reoccurring trouble code on these models and most other forums on the topic point to replacing or cleaning the solenoid, which is the first usual suspect. I have used 3 rebuilt or used solenoids on this car and tge dreaded P0014 still throws occasionally It thre again this winter in cold operating temperatures. The solenoid "switches over , which I tested and verified by applying 12 volt to it when off the car. Ok Gang here's two remedies that will fix this once and for all. Believ me I have a 2000 s40 with 133K on it. . First sometimes the timing is over advanced because the timing id over advanced check the timing belt tensioner!!!!! Really. the indicator must be dead center on a cold engine and cold ambient temp. These slip or loose tension and get out of adjustment.. Ok the second problem . Use ONLY 10 30 weight oil on these babies. Regardless of temp range. The dreaded P0014 code was throwing every 30 or 50 miles on me. I changed the oil back to 10 30 AND used at least one quart of Marvel mystery oil on that last change. It had been throwing me a P0014 every 30 or 50 miles or every other morning on a cold start up. I driven 300 miles since I did the oil change and used a quart of the Mystery oil to thin out the oil some and clean out the "gunk or sludge.
So far No dreaded P0014 is being thrown and it seems to be idling and accelerating a lot better

Hey Stacey 57 I am having the same problem with the p0014 code timing belt was changed 4000 miles ago and I've been experiencing the p0014 code it just started throwing this code.Ive been trying to get a inspection but it won't pass because of this code.I bought the car from this guy the car had been sitting up and it was low on oil and it was black so when I got it I had the timing belt changed I also changed the oil but that was 4000 miles ago and it runs fine but the code just started showing up.I bought a new camshaft solenoid last week I cleared the code but it keeps coming back.I was gonna try your idea that you said worked for you with the mystery oil question how many quarts of oil should I use with the mystery oil.
