1999 V70 Outer door trim

Post by buffmont »

Hello, I am looking to replace the dented outer plastic door protective trim on my V70.

Is the trim strip on with adhesive or clips ? Whats the best way to remove it?

Can I remove a strip from a S70 parts car to fit or do I have to buy new.

I think the newer cars are on with molding tape but you can check with this video:

Robert,
I don't remember if I ever found access to the screw that retains the trim piece on the front fender.
Do you know where access to the fastener for that trim piece is?
Thanks in advance.

There are two plastic plugs on the door where the trim ends. Pop them off and you'll see the screws that allow you to pop it off.

I think he is referring to the small fender trim?

There is NO screw for the very small front trim on the fender, just 2 push clips. Thanks for reminding me, one of mine are broken and the trim is ready to fall off. Need to fix that in the am.

Thanks for the info and video. However, it looks like there are no door plugs to access screws on the 99 V70 so they must be on with adhesive. I assume it will only take a heat gun to get the dented ones off but I don't know the best way to reattach some junk yard ones off a parts care , I guess a commercial adhesive or contact cement ?

Just pulled two sets off of a couple '99 XC's. No screws, just adhesive holding them on. I used a heat gun and got them warm not hot and they pulled right off. You can bend them some with out any problems but they will break. I am planning on using some thin 3M double sided tape. Try and find the thinnest you can. The PO of my car used a regular double sided tape and the trim doesn't attach tight to the car. I am painting the new ones to get rid of the faded look and attach them better.
