Hello Everybody,
I have a 1990 Volvo 740 GL, with manual 5 speed transmission (I think it is MK 47 II). I want to buy transmission fluid to it. I have a book about Volvos and it says that I need ATF Type F or ATF Type G fluid, but I simply cannot find these types in the shop. I can see ATF II, ATF III, ATF DEXRON, SAE types, but not ATF F or G. Is there an equivalent from these?

The general consensus is that these transmissions work best and last longer with a good synthetic gear lube. Look for RedLine MTL or Amsoil Synthetic gear lube.

Type F/G was made specifically for early Ford auto boxes but was picked up by other manufacturers and specified for their vehicles.
The following companies still produce Type F/G fluid:
Chevron/Havoline; Shell; Mobil and Valvoline.
If you go for Redline or Amsoil then you need their Synthetic Racing Oil as it has the properties of Type F.
Bill.
