Sacer installed still problematic

Post by bmxkeeler »

I recently inherited a 2000 V70. It doesn't currently run correctly. I pulled the codes and got p0221, p1600, p1651, p1610, p1671, p0171. I read up on the ETM and ordered a Sacer TPS. After I replaced the old TPS and re-installed the ETM the vehicle still has the same issues.
I'm trying to fix the car and would like advice on what to do next. Should I purchase a new ETM from XEmodex? Will that solve all of my CEL's or any? I'm not new to cars, just new to Volvo's.

Hi I have a 2001 v70 2.4 and have the same problem, I replaced the tps with the sacer and the same erratic idle, limp home mode etc...
Did you ever solve your problem as I am now in the same boat. I got these codes from volvo before tps change ECM 9150, 91b7, 532d, 620a, 903f, 9160, 91f0 and 980f. This last one they said was some kind of leak but until the ETM was changed they couldn't start to look for it. So if you or anyone else could point me in the right direction that would be great.

With both of these posts there is a common answer.

If codes are P0121 or P0122 or in Volvo code language 9150 or 9160 with only one or two other codes a Sacer sensor may help out.

However with so many codes in abundance it's truly time to toss it and get another. Save the Sacer sensor for a rainy day

Excellent response. It's great when you don't receive the answer you want to hear but it's what I needed to hear, clear and precise from someone who knows exactly what they're talking about, I can now stop messing around with the old ETM and get on with finding a new or newish one.
Will the yellow label pn 8644344 work? The original pn was 8644345 and at volvo they say pn 36050564 is what I need.
I've got hold of a 8644347 from a v70 year? turbo? auto? works better but still has idle issues and no cruise control but no limp home either. Can this be married to/programmed for my v70 na auto, Volvo has already told me they cannot do this or is it a case of they don't want to?
I had a great learning experience installing and adjusting the Sacer unit and can now take out an ETM in a matter of seconds on my first try lets just say it took longer and I cut my fingers/forearms as well.

There is a compatible program for your car that has worked for me when fitting to your car. The 8644347 from the 2000 NON TURBO model S70/V70 ONLY with the 5 speed auto transmission has worked for me a couple of times. These may be more common at the wrecking yards.

Otherwise just buy a used 8644344 or 8644345 from a used non turbo '01 V70 or S60 and it should work. Stay away from the '02 as I've encountered a different programming.

The 36050564 is supposed to be a pre-programmed version for your car and is rebuilt. It should fire up without programming though the dealer may insist on doing so.

Thanks for posting back the result. Aussies here are still being shafted for ETMs so I'll keep on repairing them as long as I can.
