I just bought a 2001 C70. It has the premium sound system with the SC 901 head unit. It was missing the 3 cd cartridge so I popped in a spare that I have. The head unit didn't acknowledge it by loading a cd like it should. I pressed the 3-cd button and that didn't do anything either. Then the eject button wouldn't work. I thought that surgery was next. After powering the unit off the cartridge finally ejected!
Anybody have any success working on these units? I have successfully changed bulbs in sc 815 & 816s so I am confident I can take one apart without destroying it. I just thought that asking for advice first might increase my odds a bit. I bought this car to flip so I'd prefer to do this as cheap as possible.
Thanks for any help!

OK, so no help suggested so I found my own solution. Step one was to clean the rollers. This resulted in the head unit recognizing the cd cartridge and continually shuffling cd's. The next step was to clean the laser so that it would see the cd and read it properly. Magic! A fully functioning SC-901. Well, almost. The 5 button doesn't work very well and the code has a 5 in it. That repair may wait. I'm not sure I want to get that deep into the HU.

How long is your pre-flip fix list? Anticipated asking price?

It needs a hood, left fender, left headlight, left corner light, and header panel. Very light bump on that corner. I've found the parts, but getting them might be delayed due to the storm. It's a black/black HPT that is REALLY clean. I've got a close friend that's interested first. If he passes I'll contact you.

Its really easy to clean the front of a 901.
Remove from car.
Remove the top cover - 2screws
Remove the front of the side rail - 2 screws
Pull the knob's off gently
Eject the cartridge by pushing the cog around near the laser label carefully, then turn it the other way to cycle the carousel partially out of the machine - then remove the 2 scews holding the front plastic valence on to it.
Gently pop the 3 tabs at the base of the fascia
Its off!
Then its just 3 small black screw's to remove the clear plastic button retainer.
Job time - 10>15 minutes
You'll find there is dirt in the button surround, or the actual button on the circuit board is gunked up - Isoprop or lighter fluid will make this click nicely again.
Whilst your at it, I would wash the whole front and all the buttons in WATER AND SOAP ONLY - there are soft touch rubbers + water based paint decals on this radio and they will come off if you start at it with harsh cleaners.

Hey kcodyjr the car is done. It took longer than I expected, but it's ready to go. Are you still interested? I'm near Worcester. Mark
