Hope that's not the case but I'll update this thread on the status.

Like Erik said, yes it's an AWD R version. Has the 2.3L turbo engine, auto transmission.

You know they sell a lot of volvos and seemed pretty enthusiastic and straight forward so I don't have too many complaints other than the engine in the car I bought from them 6 months ago has failed. Would be hard for me to find a huge fault with the purchase process but I did email them to let them know the car is toast.

I wanted to buy that tool from HF to determine whether a motor that had overheated had sustained block/piston damage or just headgasket.. How good is the resolution on those things? Would it work for that purpose or would it be a wasted $80?
Also I was at the auction preview today and saw an 02 XC70 130K miles, it had a misfire on cylinder 4, you arent able to switch coils or try to diagnose anything before you buy, I am really hoping it doesnt have a burnt valve on cyl.4. Its one thing to rebuild your own motor because you intimately know the cars history and any delayed/neglected maintenance, but I hate to gamble on a car I know absolutely nothing about (i.e maybe the transmission was also going and those two repairs together are what sent the PO packing.)

Well, Erik doesn't have the car and 1/2 of them have had their drive shaft removed.

In the immortal words of Montgomery Scott, "up yer shaft."

I'd be tempted to spring for it, but an engine swap is more than my landlord will tolerate.

Are you really sure? Is there no Volvo indy specialist nearby that could perform a swap for reasonable $$?
