2001 v70 2.4t ETM, ABS module! Timing belt, alternator

Hello everyone, new to the board and proud Volvo owner. Purchased my 2001 V70 over the holidays with 137k on the odometer. She is now in limp mode at the dealer awaiting an ETM replacement. Dealer also noted ABS module shot, alternator making a "bearings" noise, and the car is due for a timing belt. I need the ETM to get her running, but what do I tackle next? The ABS module replacement seems pretty straightforward as well as the alternator and timing belt. I just need to determine the order of repairs to spread out the cost. Any thoughts? Thanks

P.s. Is $1015 reasonable for a dealer ECM replacement?

Because new ETM from dealer have the same faulty design.

Too much money if you're going to allow the dealer near the car for the other repairs. Part number 36050563 for $379.95 from FCP Euro is a rebuilt Volvo bluebox part ALREADY PROGRAMMED for LPT inline 5 cylinder engines. Add labour and you should have change from $600.

If you want to begin real savings and are willing to buy afew tools there's more than enough info here on MVS to repair both ABS & timing belt for under $240.

The alternator is easy to remove and sells for around $225 online for a Bosch rebuild or there are tutorials here for alternator repair; the cost of a new regulator and a couple of bearings is under $100.

Thanks for the posts! I was able to get a new ETM installed by the dealer for $810. I still need to change the timing belt, the ABS BCM, the lower right (passenger side) motor mount, both spring seats, and possibly an alternator. Any links to DIYs for the above mentioned projects would be helpful. Thanks!

I got a rebuilt ABS Module from this guy:

6 years later , no problem. You'll need a security torx driver with the hole in the middle. Instructions are included.

Spring seats will require you to have your wits about you. Look here:

The timing belt is your top priority, bar none. It may or may not be time to do the water pump with it.

Car is due for a timing belt...They're probably right on that.

The alternator going on it's way out may be contributing to the ABS issue.

1. a 2001 doesn't deal with low voltage issues as well as 99 and previous.
2. a 2001 usually has a different variation of the MK20 ABS module that was used from 99-01. If the part number is 8619538 or 8619535 there's a solid chance nothing is wrong with it. If the part number is 8622093 and has an elevated block at the bottom of the socket that the large harness plugs into, the same, there is likely nothing wrong with it. The downside to those part numbers is that they are way more sensitive to either low or high voltage than the other modules that start with a part number of 9.

Also, you can't throw another ABS module on the car. On a 2001 it's mated, so you either have yours repaired or have a different unit installed and pay the dealer to reprogram it.

start with the alternator and do a running voltage check at the battery to see where you stand before even thinking about removing the ABS module.

Thanks...the dealer did note the battery voltage was low so I will run a test with the volt meter tomorrow. I'm trying to decide whether to do the timimg belt myself or go to an independent. I know the cams and crank have to align at TDC...I'm a little afraid of screwing that up as the results are catastrophic. I'm pretty sure I can handle the ALT and other stuff...just need to take care with the strut springs.

If your indy isn't a Volvo specialist, do it yourself.

The job isn't outrageously difficult, but it is nitpicky. It's thoroughly documented elsewhere on this site.
