My trunk won't unlock
My trunk won't unlock
Hello everyone. I am a new member and I have a problem. My trunk will NOT unlock. I have a 1994 Volvo 940. I locked the trunk and that same key will not unlock it. I sprayed WD-40, I took out the back seats to see if I could access the trunk. I even had a new key made with from the factory useing my VIN number. No luck. Does anyone have any advice?

The trunk lock in my 740 is connected to the power lock system. Whenever I unlock the doors using the driver door, the trunk unlocks as well. It appears that the power lock is not working for your trunk and the key tumblers have become disconnected from the lock mechanism. Given that there is a solid steel barrier between the passenger compartment and the trunk, you may just have to bite the bullet and have a locksmith drill out the lock. I wich I could help more.

Does that car have the snow ski pass through behind the arm rest? I have seen techs on 240s with this problem unbolt the trunk latch through that hole using some long rachet extensions.

A little more difficult on the 940, unfortunately, as soundproofing is in the way.
Then other parts are to be moved or removed before the lock can be removed.
Looks like a locksmith is needed but he may be able to open it without drilling it out if he is good at his job.
Bill.

Thanks for the information. Billofdurham is right. There is way to much in the way to try to unlock it from the snow ski slot. I have AAA so I'm going to give them a call and say I locked my keys in the trunk and "hopefully" he can pick it. I'll keep you updated.
I finally got it unlocked and I didn't have to use AAA. I let one of my friends give it a go and he first tried his key for a 240 series. No luck. He then tried my key. He wiggled it. He pushed up and down on the trunk. BINGO. It turned and now I can get in my trunk. I will never lock it again. He was probably the tenth person to try to unlock it but I'm glad I kept letting people try. Thanks for your help. My car is now BUTTER!
