Or use a tool we all already have: a 1/2 inch extension on a socket wrench, push it in all the way until it lines up with the 4 splines.

I tried a few times to get a 1/2" extension in there to turn it and could not.

The tool I had made I've been selling for $8 shipped.

The hole is bigger than 1/2" its the 4 splines all the way in that make a perfect 1/2" square, You just have to make sure that the 1/2" extension drive is all the way in AND oriented right (the square of the socket drive and the square formed by the splines) otherwise the splines prevent the extension from seating properly in the 1/2" square and when you turn the socket wrench the drive just turns inside the tensioner because it is not far enough in and not fitted into the splines.

heres a pic of a 1/2 extension all the way flush inserted into the tensioner. Hint: The wobble extensions will actually "snap" in so that you know you are in right.

So what exactly is that block thing that the crescent wrench is attached to, because it sure isnt part of the tensioner.

Im talking about the square-ish end of the tensioner that the idler pulley is attached to, can remember what size it was but I used a open end wrench from the bottom of the car.

I think you have a tensioner that someone has jammed one of these home made inserts into, because that is not a part on any of our cars.

I think I know what "eld4au6" is talking about.

If RED is the usual way of doing this, then BLUE is what "eld4au6" refers to.
Basically:
- Adjustable wrench from below the car.
