Or use a tool we all already have: a 1/2 inch extension on a socket wrench, push it in all the way until it lines up with the 4 splines.

I tried a few times to get a 1/2" extension in there to turn it and could not.

The hole is bigger than 1/2" its the 4 splines all the way in that make a perfect 1/2" square, You just have to make sure that the 1/2" extension drive is all the way in AND oriented right (the square of the socket drive and the square formed by the splines) otherwise the splines prevent the extension from seating properly in the 1/2" square and when you turn the socket wrench the drive just turns inside the tensioner because it is not far enough in and not fitted into the splines.rspi wrote:I tried a few times to get a 1/2" extension in there to turn it and could not.

heres a pic of a 1/2 extension all the way flush inserted into the tensioner. Hint: The wobble extensions will actually "snap" in so that you know you are in right.

I think you have a tensioner that someone has jammed one of these home made inserts into, because that is not a part on any of our cars.

If RED is the usual way of doing this, then BLUE is what "eld4au6" refers to.
Basically:
