1995 850 Rear deck speaker no mid-range speaker sound

Post by mschmelzer91 »

Greetings, this is a long one, bare with me :)
I've been having problems with just one of my rear deck speakers. Opened it up a while ago and the tweeter magnet had fallen (as many here have pointed out). Glued it up, the speaker started working again. A few months later, the speaker was sounding crackly. Again, opened it up and there was really nothing bad to be seen. But only the tweeter would produce noise.

Fast forward to recently. Found a guy on ebay who had two rear deck OEM speakers he claimed were in great working condition and well kept. I ordered one and plugged it in and no sound came out. Open it up, there was a connection that came un soldered. It was the resistor wire that connects to the tweeter. I quickly soldered it and put it in the car. Now I have the same issue as before, only the tweeter works and its pretty quiet. It doesn't sound blown though. But I can not for the life of me get the mid speaker to produce sound. From my research, I guess it would be the crossover that is giving me issues. And the crossover, is the piece of board on the metal frame where all the connections come together (correct?). This is where I'm lost. The crossover looks fine. All connections good. My next suspect is the resistor (I think that's a resistor?) that's connected to the crossover.

Tested the other speaker in the problem side and it has full range so that rules out a short in the car. the foam is nicely intact. The speaker has good resistance if you lightly push on it. I guess I just need to know how to isolate the mid speaker so I can find out whats wrong. Hoping someone with more experience can help.

Thank you,
Max
