buy or build race motor for my 98 c70?
i love my c70, but recently i aquired an 06 bmw 325i, and my poor c70 is left to sit. so im gonna have some fun with it. i dont know what would be more worth it, gather my internals and have machine shop build my motor, or buy one already built. i know how much pre built motors are but im not sure about the costs of building my own. i have found a motor to use as a baseline (http://www.tkimotorsport.com/race-engine-for-sale) what do you all think of it, for $4800 shipped?

The question is what kind of fun you wish to have. Personally, in that situation, I'd do it myself, because that's at least as much fun as taking it onto the racetrack and getting smashed into.

i dont want to go insane with it. between 350-600whp max. to be completely honest i just wanna stick it to a former coworker from a speedshop i worked at. he thought he was king sh@t when he dropped a 350z block into his maxima. now he has an 08 eclipse with a 75 shot. i want it to be street legal. most hard runs will be dyno races at car shows. im just not sure how much a machine shop will charge to do the sleeves and such.

i'd guess that the price is significantly cheaper than the price of the components and machine work. i also really like their intercooler piping.
my own opinion is that the 250-300hp that V6 sedans are putting out these days is about as much as is usable at the front wheels, and even if you did want 425 you'd probably have to beef up the drivetrain to make sure it didn't just shred the rest of the greasy bits.

Just curious to know how close was the race between you and the maxima and you and the eclipse?
I've ran both neither had NOS so just curious to see.

i never got to race the maxima, he screwed up something not to long after the swap and ate his valvetrain. it sat until he bought the eclipse. i raced his eclipse while i had a cracked intercooler, and in eco mode. he JUST walked off on me. he talks so much crap about our cars, so im gonna take his comments and shove them so far up his @$$ that he HAS to swallow them.

Anything much above 300 HP, you won't be able to put down the power - the front tires will just light up. For that, you need AWD.
300 HP is fairly easy on a stock motor with a few performance mods, above that, the bottom end is weak. Look to a reputable tuner (ARD has some good ones).

i think a nice pair of micky-t's should solve that traction problem?
