98 s70 t5 Multiple cylinder misfire

Post by volvospeeds70 »

I just got a CEL for multiple cylinder misfire on a 98 S70 T5 with 268k. Cylinder 1,2,and 4 misfire. plugs and wires changed around 250k,pcv system also done 250k, any other suggestions?

Fixed (or i thought i did) problem once, cam sensor plug was interfering with coil, so seperated them and car drove fantastic for 175 miles, after that, boom................ misfire! Car almost cut off but didn't. Any one know a solution to this?

when you did the plugs and wires did you also do the distributor cap and rotor? pull the cap off and look for arcing on the contact points.

Do a quick compression test to see where you are.

Could also be a failing fuel pump or relay. How old is the fuel filter?

Pull the plugs and put some oil in the cylinders and roll it over a few times.

You can also drain the coolant, drain the oil, add some cheap oil, then crank it up for a minute or two. You don't want none of the metal parts to rust and lock up because of the mix.

I purchased a nice S70 GLT once because the car sat for a while with a blown head gasket. The internal parts rusted and locked up the motor. I got some Volans, new tires, Bilsteins, HD brake lines and many other good parts for $250.
