Here is a picture of inputs - can anyone guide me to the L/R for this system? The L-Channel and R-CHannel markers are as useful as birdcage full of goat manure...

Can someone give a succinct technical summary of this mod? What exactly does it accomplish, by what strategy, and to what quality result?

The videos are very helpful and I don't mean to discourage, but for some of us, opening a video is a serious commitment of scarce CPU and memory resources. A paragraph of accompanying text would be most welcome.

You cut a 3.5 mm iPod jack and solder the wires to the points indicated in the picture.

Now you plug your IPod into the radio, select tape, and play music from your iPod through your stereo.

Commercial solution about 140 USD

This solution, 7.99 plus solder.

Select tape. That was the key piece of information.

This modification injects a signal by wire into the tape subsystem, hopefully after the magnetic pickup preamp. If so, it would result in good signal quality, on rough par with CD. If not, might as well just use one of those cheap tape adapters.

By the way, that would be a 1/8" TRS jack, not an "iPod jack." Let's not give the Almighty Sir Jobs credit for more than his considerable due.
