V70 Buying a timing belt water pump kit

Post by Grooveman221 »

Hi all, does anyone know what kind of water pump that the contitech crp kit comes with? Pp331lk1 on ebay. It doesn't specify. I'm also looking at fcp euro stage 2 kit with Gmb water pump and ipd with the Aisin water pump.

Thoughts?

I would only buy the Aisin pump. Aisin is the factory pump (on the one's I've bought form IPD I can see where someone ground off "Volvo" on the the casting of the Aisin part.) This past summer three of our 4 Volvos (2 XC70's and an S80) were due for their second replacement timing belt. I swapped all three water pumps also. On all three cars the first timing belt replacement had been done by aprevious owner's independent shop. The two well-used Aisin pumps were still water-tight, the after-market GMB pump was leaking. Same advice for the tensioners and pulleys. Use OEM parts. I looked at the difference between the OEM and GMB after-market parts I was pulling off (a highly-recommended independent Volvo shop in Boise used all cheap-o parts on one of the cars.) and I could see the difference in the size of the springs, the residual strength in the brackets (some were bent). IPD sells good stuff, mostly. FCP has some deals on good stuff. Shop other sites and you can find the OEM parts at decent prices; but I say avoid the after-market stuff.
