Trans issues. It will fail.
Electrical issues. Not just regular issues but the ones that defy logic and cost big money.

There's a reason you see them in the Junkyard with zero body damage, newer tires and clean interiors.

I understand.

If they would have gotten the trans and electrical right I would own one in a minute. They're comfortable to drive and look nice. I had a local guy leave his with me for over a week last summer, I actually enjoyed driving it.

A built transmission will likely outlast the engine, but the car is hardly worth it because it's a 15 year old Volvo. All of the rubber parts will need replacing shortly, or already in need of repair. You can easily spend $10 000 bringing it back to like new condition. Mind you, you'd get another 15 years out of it granted something silly didn't happen like burn an exhaust valve, get into an accident, have your master cylinder leak then the car catch on fire, etc.

Ya know, silly Volvo things, that seem to happen.

My experience has been that all of the Volvo rubber and plastic is failing, meanwhile the 4t65e keeps on trucking. I have a list somewhere of things that can fail, and they're P2 problems. Not S80 problems.

Pros: gorgeous, fun, roomy, safe.
Cons: major pain in the ass.

If you don't have an independent Volvo mechanic that you trust, run, do not walk, away.

Still here? Okay. Have your indy look at it before buying. If it's been babied, it might be worth it.
