2003 XC-90 thinking about purchase

I currently own three Volvos- a V,C and S70. All pre-2000. I am going to be purchasing a "new to me" vehicle. It needs be an SUV with at least 3500 lbs of towing capacity (for my boat- it only needs to go about 1/2 twice a year). I like a 7 passenger capacity. I have been looking at XC70's 2003 to 2006 online. I like that it is all wheel drive and for the most part have had good experiences with other Volvos.

I know the 2001's had transmission issues. Did the 2003 to 2006 remedy the issues? Also, what else should I be aware of with these vehicles when evaluating for purchase- ie- other known issues.

I think you will hear that the 04-06/07 AWD non V8 had trans issues but the 2.5T FWD(front wheel drive) are fine although some consider them under powered. I didn't think the extra seating room accounted for much in the xc90 and I love wagons so I went with the 800lb lighter ,better mpg xc70 and have been very happy.

I hope others who (unlike me) have owned an xc90 can chime in and share their experiences as they have first hand experience compared to me only hearing the issues here.

If it is a T-6 then pass. Same basic transmission as the earlier S 80 T-6.
