It's best to listen for the pump. When you press the valve at the end of the rail, you should get a nice little quick squirt. If it doesn't squirt, you likely have a relay or pump issue.

Check your MAF (Mass Air Flow Sensor). My car would not start recently and it seemed like a fuel problem. It acted like it wanted to start but wouldn't and when it would, it would run a few seconds then shut off. It was not fuel related but, instead something simple but, initially overlooked. The MAF is located on the air intake, just north of the filter with a plug attached. Disconnect and see if car starts. If it does, then your MAF is bad. Otherwise, follow "rspi" advice, troubleshooting your fuel system. He does a good job explaining the testing procedures.

ok i checked everything maf sensor is good i have a good spark i have good fuel pressure, timing is good and so is compression.. i do have two fualts in code system, # 1 comes up as idle air control which i disconnected while trying to troubleshoot so thats most likely why it falted but i did replace with a known good unit and same result, # 2 comes up as EGR system faulty now my question is could be a bad EGR valve if so how do i check and also could it be a bad ignition ECU that actually controls the EGR

I suspect you have an ignition problem leading to a no-spark condition rather than an ECU problem. ECU failures on these cars are extremely rare.
