So the old 855 interior, engine and gearbox are really starting to get bad. I found a wrecked 2004 XC70.
What I'm thinking of doing is transferring all the running gear and interior to the 855.
Anyone done something like it? I really love the 850 shape and my car. If this XC ends cheap (under $500) it may be worthy.

If you got the XC for free it wouldn't be cheap to install that stuff in a 850. Lots of engine and transmission management stuff to work out.
There are lots of low mileage (under 200,000) 850's out there in good shape that you can get and whip into stage 0 shape real quick.

I wouldn't think ANY of the interior bits would swap, like seats/dash. The engine and tranny are different and would have to be swapped as a whole unit, along with the wiring, computers, fuse boxes, relays, etc. The lifted suspension and AWD wouldn't work very well either.
In other words, don't bother. Find a pre-1999 wagon and go from there if you want to keep the 855.

If I had a larger garage, I could have more Volvos.

Yeah however in Australia Volvo tags a high price. You can get a cheap one that is near death. A good one is next to impossible to find. Mine was a fluke in pretty good condition at $2000. Three years down the track and lots of little thing being replaced. I can get a T5 engine for about $800, though I need a new gearbox. Again scrounging the wrecking yards trying to find a manual box and all the trimmings without being gouged (I'm a dismantler in the Jap section)
I am looking for the next project as the V70 is ready and Range Rover isn't far away, I'd Like to do something no one in their right minds would attempt. Though lack of working space is a problem right now. *sigh* hard to keep an active mind busy.
