Help, Advice and DIY Tutorials on Volvo's P80 platform cars -- Volvo's 1990s "bread and butter" cars -- powered by the ubiquitous and durable Volvo inline 5-cylinder engine.
Hey guys, just wanted to share my lowering experience with you. Here's some pics of the front. I'm doing the backs after I get back from my cross country trip to Georgia.
The ride is a little rough, but the best part.........................Totally FREEEE.
I just removed the springs completely, instant slam-o-rama!!!!
You will ruin your hood because the shocks will be pushed all the way through before long. Good luck, but I think this is the dumbest thing I've ever seen just about anywhere. It's a shame you've done this to such a nice looking wagon.
Ah, Ozark man, you called my bluff! Yes, I was just trying to get a chuckle. My friend and I tried to go ghetto and cut a half coil off the springs. This won't work!! The springs have a smaller end coil on the top AND the bottom, resulting in a freaky-scary strut of death when you put it back together. I'm sitting on a springless strut for 2 days while eibach springs come in the mail.
The odd thing, made in japan...no rubbing at all. We lowered it back down hobbled together to re-park the car until the spring kit arrives, and nothing!
Ah, good to hear you weren't serious. I'm very relieved. I could see it on a worn out '93 850 or something that was all bashed up and paint peeling to try such a thing but not on something as nice as yours. It's good to know that without springs or with cut springs that the ride is scary. The springs do much more than we all give them credit for, including stabalizing the ride.
Get those Eibach's in and get thou to an alignment shop!
That's the plan. They're going in Saturday. I'll post before and after pictures for people to compare the height difference. I couldn't find many pictures at all of a V70 before/after with eibachs.
Mr. Wrong Love the Photo Shop! I have always loved the look of slammed cars. I guess it is probably a generation thing but I used to love my slammed CRX. I have been so tempted to do it to my 850 Wagon but I do not want to give the kids whiplash on the bumps
