Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

05 S80 - ABS/Antiskid msgs few before ETA - persistent after

Post by ppembe62 »

Hi,

Before repl ETA, I would get a lot of the Reduced Engine performance + Eninge System Service Rqd msgs....when I did get these, I would turn car off & restart.

This would make these msgs stop for varying periods of time (ie: longer periods initially, but much shorter periods finally). Anyway, towards the end, I was turning off/restarting many times in a trip (10, 20, even 30 times in a trip). Just two days ago, this process ceased to work at all and I had to limp home; where I finally repl ETA.

Occasionally, when going thru these "turn off/restart" exercises, I would get the ABS/Antiskid messages. These messages did not persist, but went away.

Well now that I have repl ETA, the ABS/Anti-Skid msg has returned today and has stayed on thru several drive cycles.

When repl the ETA, I had disconnected the battery...could a undercharged battery be the culprit?

I appreciate any help you could offer.

Thanks

Peter

Often times an ABS fault code is caused by nothing more than one or more dirty sensors in the wheel hubs. If you remove the wheel you can follow the wire to the sensor. There you will find a small screw or bolt that holds the sensor in the hub. Remove the sensor from the hub, clean off the business end of it, and reinstall it. This may not be your problem but it doesn't cost anything to try it.

Chrism,

Thanks ... I will give it a try & rpt back.

The msg comes & goes between drive cycles (but not w/in a drive cycle)...

However, the amber ABS light remains light regardless of the msg...

Thx

Peter,

I have the same sequence of error messages: 1. ABS/Anti skid service - 2.Reduced engine performance

Car enters limp mode and can be reset with ignition start-up. I'd like to verify that the problem is not electrical/connectivity before I replace parts.

My indie mechanic says problem is the the ETM/MAF structure but cannot access software to replace parts.
