Now to my particular 1997 850 T5's SRS symptoms...
My SRS light is on due to (most often):
- raw hex ECU 58 DTC 03 -->> SRS-212 -- Drivers airbag open circuit
- raw hex ECU 58 DTC 02 -->> SRS-211 -- Drivers airbag short circuit
- raw hex ECU 58 DTC 04 -->> SRS-213 -- Drivers airbag short circuit to ground
The light has been on for years (99-100% of the time). I've been able to clear all those DTCs at one time or another (using this or an updated version of it that also works for the 1998 S70/V70/etc), but never all the DTCs at the same time.
SRS-212 persists all year round (almost always since 2012-07 when I learned how to read the SRS DTCs).
SRS-211 persisted most of the time since 2012-07 (except during 2013-06-09 thru 2013-11-30, when it never manifested for who-knows-what reason).
SRS-213 can be cleared 98% of the time, sometimes for as long as several months, but eventually it returns.
I want to rule out the corrosion possibility, but have been hampered by the extreme fear of having the air bag explode and blow my head off or maiming me for life.
Knowing I have these 3 codes, can someone walk me through -- in a detailed way -- the sequence of what to do after disconnecting the battery (according to osman's instructions):
- unplug what,
- clean what and how,
- plug back in what,
before turning ignition to pos II, then reconnecting the battery? Or can you point me to a link that already explains that in a clear, detailed manner for a 97 850?
I, in turn, release you of absolutely all legal responsibility for your advice. I'll take full responsibility for following any suggested instructions.
I wish to avoid the dealer if all that is necessary in my case is cleaning contacts and resetting the SRS DTCs.
I don't plan on doing any electrical measurements of any kind, so I don't need to worry about osman's resistance measurement warning. I only want to rule out the corroded contacts possibility or any other possibility which can be checked without causing the airbags to explode.
If the airbags need replacing, that's a job I'll definitely delegate to the dealer.
