First time Poster to this site, and I am sure I will need all the help I can find! Stil reletivly new to volvos, So thank you in advance.
I have a 98 V70 XC with vin Code 56, B5254T engine. Engine went out and looking to replace it. I found a great low milage 2000 S70 with same vin code (56), but has the B5244T engine code? I am not sure what the differences are. Will this engine work with mine? Bolt to tranny? All sensors work?
Thank you for any help.
engine swap B5254T to B5244T

Check that both engines have VVT on the exhaust cam (there's a solenoid under the cam cover) and you should be fine. Differences between '99 and '00 were internal with solid lifters on the 2000 models. Pistons and compression ratio are unaltered.

stcloud01s60 If you have a B5244S (non turbo) motor you NOW have a compression ratio of 11:1 instead of 9:1 of the B5244T or B5254T
If you reconnected the turbo you will very quickly damage the motor due to detonation or knocking:

I can't really give you a solution; no one here would EVER fit a non-turbo engine unless they swap out the pistons to lower compression ones.
Also the cams are the wrong ones for turbo AND the VVT's on the wrong side.
Also how on earth did you modify the oil pressure feed to the turbo? The water lines will swap over though.....

98 had no CVVT, 99 was the year CVVT started.
2000 turbo motor has exhaust CVVT.
That B5244T (same exact displacement, 2000 is the year they quit rounding 2435 CC up to 2.5L and then named it a 2.4L) will require use of the 98 cylinder head if it is usable. The CVVT will not function properly without signaling by the engine control module. 98 ECM has no circuits to do that job.
The head is machined to have the CVVT unit on the front of cam and the head is larger for the CVVT to insert and be provided oiling so you can't just use the 98 cam stuck in 2000 head.

Jimmy PREVIOUS POSTER was B5454T to B5244T Yes I should have stated the '98 has no VVT for the previous guy!!
The more recent one (different user) is B5244S to B5244T
He changed the title and hijacked the post instead of posting a new thread. He has an '01 S60 2.4T

Just hope he DOESN"T start it, though I have a friend who did the same on an 850 (B5254S on a T5 chassis) and he says the engine management system kept up and he ran it for afew months with normal driving before selling it (which wasn't a bad decision I feel.....
)
With this guy the VVT is going to be the hard one..

Mine is a 1998 ME7 model AWD V70 and does have the CVVT on it.
Engine is a B5254T.
Only thing is that on some sites where I use my license plate number to find parts it sometimes comes up as a 1999 model but the car was registered in 1998.
