2001 c70 2.0 lpt head gasket question

Post by lockey71 »

hi all can anybody help me solve my problemcar boiled up and warped head, have had head skimmed but had to take off 20 thou.is it a good idea to double up on the head gasket to compensate or will a standard gasket suffice or is there a thicker gasket available. main concern is due to increased compression.thanks in advance for any help

No - Do not use 2 head gaskets- they will fail. They are not designed to be stacked. Ask your machinist about the cut marks on the head. Each head comes with an indicator as to how much can be cut before the head is discarded. Lots of used rebuilt heads available if you are overcut/overmilled.

If you were over-cut ( too much material removed-cut passes by/into milling marks) without being notified I would not use the machinist again

As long as the head and block are within spec and the gasket is installed properly - Yes.

The comp ratio will go up and that might make it have some more go. It will likely need high octane fuel full time if it wasn't getting that already.

Volvo says no more than a 0.30 mm cut and you cut it 0.50mm. Volvo has a head height minimum spec and the min spec usually is .45 or even a bit more than the new head height. That amount has been cut from plenty with no problems. The timing set up needs to be done accurately. You will have valves closer to pistons and there is reduced room for error for intake cam being advanced. With locking tool used on back of cams this is hard to not get right but just a warning. Exhaust valve timing usually gives more room for exhaust valves and they are already smaller valves.
