2004 C70 HPT Convertible Tranny Question

Post by EverRespect »

5-speed Automatic 72k miles. When I start cold, sometimes it lags and shifts a little rough... noticeable to me knowing the car but not to my wife or any other passengers. Very subtle and does not persist once the car reaches normal operating temperature. My wife was having tranny issues in her Buick and a bottle of Lubegard literally fixed it. Can I use Lubegard on this transmission? Should I use red or platinum? Would like to nip this in the bud before it becomes a problem. I just bought the vehicle and don't know the service records. No CEL or codes thrown.

I haven't had a chance to check. I don't have a garage and the weather has been crap. I know if the fluid is mucked to do some drain and fills w/ Mobile 3309. What I don't know is if I can use Lubegard on this tranny.

I certainly don't want to ruin it... especially considering the hard shifts are hardly noticeable and only occur on cold start.

Maybe it is normal? I previously had a 2000 LPT so maybe I am just getting used to the HPT?

I'd try repeated drain and fills first. This is personal feeling but I'd not put something other than tranny fluid in a Volvo. Stop leak in power steering perhaps but engine oil in the motor and tranny fluid in the tranny.
