1996 Volvo 850 with P0335 and odd behavior...

Post by rspi »

A guy I've been talking to has an issue that has puzzled both of us. He keeps getting a crank sensor code and the car has been tuned up within the past year. The crank sensor was replaced with a new sensor, the wire is away from the coil wire and everything else but the code keeps coming back.

The odd thing is, the car is driving worse and worse FORWARD. You can put it in reverse and drive to Sweden with no issues at all, drives great in reverse. Shift it in Drive and it bucks, kicks and will hardly pick up any speed. All suggestions are welcome.

Have you bench tested the crank sensor?

No, what does that mean? Just check ohm readings?

How about crank sensor connector or wiring? Maybe best to use a known good crank sensor, not just a new one.

I'm riding on thin ice here, but I believe that the proper way to test a cam sensor is to check Ohms, then AC voltage generated:

Page 5 mentions the Hertz at which its supposed to operate: https://www.dropbox.com/s/wuu37m1qkun45 ... 0turbo.pdf

Not my area, but my 2 cents. :D

Thanks for the input. Just strange that it runs so well in reverse.
