Re: 1999 V70XC Transmission woes.
Hey there Matt. I received the ABS module yesterday. I disconnected the battery and installed it with no problems. I've had it off in the past. When i reconnected the battery & went 4 a test run, all the dash lights were off. The speedometer only registered half the speed in which i was traveling. After about 1 Km, the ABS light along with the Tracs light came on and the speedometer registered properly. On the next short drive, the check engine light came back on as well. I've tried to reset it again by disconnecting/reconnecting the battery and this resets the Tracs & engine light but not the ABS light. It just stays on. I tried unplugging & plugging back in the connections but this didn't seem to help at all. The code is 1551. Speed sensor problem. I swapped the sensor from another car that i have but that changed nothing either. I was hoping that the new module would fix my dash light issues but they have returned as before. The speedometer now sometimes registers 0, halfway, or correct speed. According to what kind of mood its in. I'm starting to think this thing is possessed!
Any help on next plan off attack for me? Wheel sensors maybe? Any help would be appreciated. Cheers, Trevor.

You have a bum or dirty sensor in the front end.
Being that the lights were off at startup, it passed the continuity check so you shouldn't have an open circuit issue. When it initially only registers half-speed it's only getting a speed reading from one sensor. Once the module figures that it's only getting one reading instead of an average of the two it will then trigger the lights and take a reading from the one sensor.
Make sure the large harness is 100‰ on. Reseat it and make sure it is 100 percent down and firmly locked into place before checking the two front wheels out. You're going to look at both front sensors and the tone rings.

You were right on the money with the wheel sensor. I checked both sensors with an ohm tester and the passenger side was dead. I swapped it out with one off my spare car that tested OK and now everything is working A1. All dash lights are off. I now sometimes notice a pulsing in the brake pedal when slowing down. Does this have anything to do with the car having to relearn now that the sensor is reading correctly. Your info has been much appreciated and I was just wondering if you may have some input as to what is going on now.
I still have no overdrive gear. When I'm travelling at 80 km the tach is reading 2500rpm. @ 100km-3000rpm. The car used to shift into a higher gear so that 100km read 2000rpm. While i had the air filter box out, I ohm tested the VSS and it read as an open circuit would. As I understand, they should test as the working wheel sensors did. No check engine light but I feel as this isn't correct. What's your fix on it?

Is the pulsing the abs pump kicking in or just a pulsing?

I think it figured out. I had a rotor on the driver's side that was unevenly warn. It was causing the ABS to take a bad reading. I still think this thing is a bit possessed.
Carrying on regardless. Here's to you.
