1995 850T5-R Short question on Injectors

Post by hausmeister »

Today I removed the rail and Injectors for cleaning and to check for bad seals.

On one Injector the bottom part hat a piece missing, looks like it broke off some time ago (dirty break). Will look if I can find the piece, but my guess is it is long gone.
Can I just reuse it anyway, or should I replace it? Maybe I can get one from the junker.
What purpose does the end-cap serve anyways, except maybe sealing with the o-ring?

Also, I will try to clean them myself, already built something where i can apply 3bar pressueized fluid to it (hope it will work ;) ) - does anyone know the voltage to switch these things? 2.4 volts?
Also is the polarity important? (can I mess them up If I try it backwards)
They are from the T5, Bosch 0280150785

I believe I have read that people have purchased those end caps locally. Check with an auto parts store, if they don't have it, they will likely direct you to the source.

Why do you think the injectors need cleaning? I would leave that to a professional shop.

The car has a rough idle and takes longer than normal to start, and it has had a lot of previous owners who did not fix things correctly. There is a very long list of "bad" fixes that I already straightend out, so sadly I cannot assume it is ok...

Someone also messed with the fuel system... and the o-rings seem very loose, fuel lines kind of bent... And to be honest I just want to mess with things :) Want to get the car back to a stage 0.
It's kind of a project and also things to learn.

I doubt any dealer here will have that. Stealership will just have a whole injector, but I can ask them just for fun. I will try my luck at a used injector I guess. (if just to reuse the cap if it comes off)
Car-related stores in my country are more or less a joke if you need real stuff and not some VW bolt on spoiler ;)

Injectors are fairly forgiving i'd say, if you could find some newer injectors/fuel rail at a scrap yard that would probably be your best bet. I scored some white injectors for next to nothing. (when I say newer I mean 96+)

I've never seen that cap before on any of my injectors.

Make sure to grease up those o-rings when you re-install the injectors, blown seals suck.

Thanks for your suggestions; sadly(?) I don't live in USA so the kits etc don't really help me. (Does not make sense to order this from the US)
I don't think I need new(used) Injectors, so I'm not really looking to replace them.

@ tryingbe
I'm sure you can, however I can guarantee you in Austria will not find these parts in stock anywhere except maybe in a specialized Bosch service shop. That is where I will look next, volvo dealer obviously only has the complete injector.

If you have info about the other stuff I would appreciate it.

(maybe I will just buy a reconditioned set and save me a lot of searching and troubles)

My suggestion was simply because that would be the easiest route. they flow a little more than the turbo ones I think.

I have an extra set that needs o-rings if you were ok with getting new ones I would ship them to you for the cost of postage.

(these are not mine, the picture is just reference as to what they look like)

Thanks, Jush.
I'm not confident with putting different injectors in the engine - I guess it would be OK if one adjusted the ecu or whatever is required.

I found a decent priced set on ebay from a european seller(bavarianwerke) which I will order. It's the safest bet and I will know that they are performing as they should.

If anyone wants to know, they require 12V and are ground switched (I think). I tested 2 of them, just out of interest - fluid came out in a straight line (no dispersion at all).
On the second one I could see a bit dispersion, but it was a straight line more or less.

I used Injector cleaner fluid @ 3bar... (home made testing thingy )but now I'm glad I already orderd the set, to much work and I don't have the right equipment anyways. But maybe I will test one of the refurbished inectors just to see how much differnce there is.
