2002 S60 Bulb Failure Dipped Beam

Post by BGS »

Heya,

Tonight as I was leaving work I noticed that my headlights had pretty much failed. The driver side light worked very slightly and the other on the passengers side was out completely. There is a message on the dash that reads "Bulb Failure Dipped Light" and the problem only effects the low beam lights, the high beams work just fine.

I find it odd for both lights to fail like this as both were working without hassle just last night.

After looking on through various forums I have read that it may be a problem with the melting of the socket or something in the CEM.

How exactly do I access the CEM on a 2002 S60 to see if this is indeed the case? I have heard the access panel is under the steering wheel or something but I can't seem to find it. Can anyone help me?

I would inspect the shunts and the low beam fuse terminals (these are inside the LH side dash fuse box), and then the low beam relay and fuses (one for each side low beam) in the engine compartment fuse box. Look for signs of overheating, discoloration, corrosion, etc. I doubt it's the CEM.
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.
Disclaimer: We (very) seldom do that
