I took my car into a Volvo shop near me. It used to have a guy there who was most reliable, but he was gone, so it's a new relationship.
I do a lot of work on my 850, and had asked about a clicking noise I thought may have been the CV. The shop came back with it's the Transmission.
I didn't believe them, but I did notice that on a turn, left or right, I could stop the clicking by engaging the cluch pedal. They also told me my control arm was broken, it was the one I replaced last year, when they told me it was broken. The woman who was reading me the quotes didn't even know it was a manual, so at that point I decided I better pick up my car and bring her back in house.
The other problems, such as a bad caliper and E-brake pads, I just fixed yesterday, and Advanced Auto Parts sold me a cracked caliper, so it took a little longer to get the right part back in. Long annoying story short: It's purring like a kitten, except on sharp turns. Does this sound like a transmission problem? Is it something myself, being, John Q. Volvoathomerepairguy can fix?
Help me Matthews Volvo Site
Thanks!
J

Sure does sound like CV joints. They click when turning under power, so disengaging the clutch would silence it just as sure as taking one's foot off the gas.
