I think I broke my 850 r

Post by marklar »

I just adjusted the waste gate actuator then took my car out, I let it get warmed up then I started to get on it, it didn't seem like the adjustments made a difference, then I went WOT and it got up to about 60, then the engine made a different noise and it started jerking, so I pulled over and let it cool off for about 15 minutes, then the whole drive home it wouldn't go above 30 and it would jerk when it got to 2k rpms, I got it home and let it idle, then it died at idle...please tell me I didn't just destroy this car

How many turns did you adjust the waste gate?

Is the CEL on and if so have you read the codes? You should check for codes even if the CEL isn't on.

A compression test will tell you if you've done any major damage to the engine but you may want to first start looking for any leaks in the turbo plumbing. If the turbo hoses are all stock then its possible the extra pressure blew one or more hoses off.

I turned it twice and it was opening up at 2 psi, no cel popped but I'll run the obd reader and see if any codes pop, my buddy said that it was probably a vacuum leak also, I really hope so. It started raining here and I have my daughter this weekend so I'm going to have to wait until Monday to check everything

Sounds like a hose came off or torn.

While replacing my hoses and manifold recently, I also adjusted that actuator two full turns.

On my second run, while at about half throttle, It started running badly. I had tried a little brake torque and it became clear I had dislodged a hose. It was at the throttle body.

I retightened all hose connections. I also did an ECU reset, (unhook battery and discharge system) and it has straightened up. It is normal boost until around 2,500 and hope you are steering forward at that point and after.
I had meant to add that I am also using a 628 R ECU at this point. Our setup may differ in the fact that I have utilized a 3" throttle body type N/A manifold, and a Snaab 3" intake to turbo tube.

But seriously check for loose connections, or cracked hoses.
Or sell me your R. Kidding of course.

Check the lower section of the intercooler. You may need to remove a splash pan to see it. Easy to blow this tube off.

I fixed it, it was a huge vacuum leak and increadibly obvious. It was the big hose that plugs right into the manifold, I'm gonna do a compression test tomorrow and order a new PVC system and waste gate actuator if its all good, thanks for the help guys.
