1999. S70. Vibration through steering wheel

Post by Chevtex5 »

Scratching my head over a long term vibration felt through the steering wheel at idle...

I just replaced the right motor mount down by the front passenger side wheel well...and the upper mount bracket and bushing on the top of the engine - drivers side. No change.

Seems to me I first noticed this vibration after Volvo replaced my timing belt, 25000 miles ago. Was this a coincidence?

Car has 104000 miles on it - nearly all highway commute miles and I am the original owner.

Any ideas or suggestions welcomed!

Get a helper.

Loosen the upper motor mount bushing bolt so it is slack, but don't remove it.

Turn the car on, tell the helper to hold the brake firmly and put the car in reverse.

Tighten the upper motor mount. Done.

Tell me if it worked. :)

Sorry for the delay...got twisted off on another issue...

Thank you for the suggestion, tried the simple fix, however, no significant change.

Is the upper firewall-side mount in good shape?

How about the transmission torque mount? Is the bushing shot on the subframe or transmission side? Wiggle it around, shouldn't move much at all.

You did not say how strong a vibration it was. I get a slight vibration through my steering wheel because my angle gear is bad. It was the first symptom I noticed. It goes away in neutral.
