ECT? That's something I never thought of. It's possible that the one in there is the original.

I took a resistance reading on it this afternoon. 1.7 ohms @ 70 degrees F.
I came across an article on the web that said it should be around 2,600! Is that right?

The temp. gauge is always rock steady just a hair above 3 o'clock.
Junkyard parts are hard to come by. Mostly because whenever the closest yard is open, I'm working.
It's too bad. I just don't have the dough to throw parts at this car.
That's why I'm always looking for some kind of diagnostic tests.

The 2600 sounds too high but still, if you trust your multimeter, your is too low. Which would make sense, your car is being told the engine is hot so it doesn't inject the extra fuel the engine needs for cold starts.

At 70 it should read more like 400 ohms, Here are a couple links with values from others:

You read my mind regarding the accuracy of my meter. I checked it on the IAC and got readings of 11.5 and 12.3 which are within the acceptable range so I'm pretty sure the meter is ok.

I looked at the links you posted above and think you may not have realized that my temp. reading was in Fahrenheit not Celsius. Hence the 2600 ohms vs. 400 ohms.

But still, I agree that my reading of only 1.7 ohms is out of whack and would make the ECU think the coolant is very hot and thus not inject enough fuel. But doesn't this same sender control the temp. gauge on the instrument cluster? So wouldn't the temp. gauge be displaying "hot" as well?
And at only 1.7 ohms, I wonder if I should expect the cooling fan to be running or does that only kick on at 0 ohms?

Thank you for your help as I'm trying to figure this out.
