1999 v70R loss of coolant, pressurized coolant system.

Post by Meangreen1 »

First of all, thanks for having a site like this. I have fixed many problems by referencing information in forums. I have searched but nothing comes up with all of my symptoms to bare with me if I ask a about a repeated topic.

Issues. The last 6 months I have gone through about a pint a week in coolant. Not a big deal and so I would just top it off. Well fast forward to last week and my expansion tank cracked. I drove over to IPd picked up a replacement. Now that I have replaced that and fill the system with coolant, here is where my problems have worse. The system will have no coolant when hot with the cap on, I open and add the and it just disappears with the cap back on. Other symptoms include white smoke from exhaust but with a very rich fuel smell. I also smell a little fuel in the coolant, I think. I have also noticed if the car sits for a few hours it won't turn over on the first try, the starter asks like it's underpowered. (Maybe hydro locked) it has a little bit of a rough idle but drives fine and not underpowered one bit, I still hit full boost and pressure drop.

My thoughts
Stuck injector. It's dumping fuel and washing cylinder. Explains the fuel smell that I'm smelling.
Potentially a cracked hard cooler line going to the turbo? This would dump coolant into the exhaust making it white? A combination of the first to make sense to me, input please.

As always in the back of my mind is that it's a blown head gasket and I will need to replace that. The car just runs too good for to be that. I have no performance or temperature issues once I am able to start it.

I have had the following engine codes; misfire in multiple cylinders, O2 sensor, camshaft, in the last day while checking on this.

Input please, many thanks for your help.

Last thought maybe it's a faulty cap as well.

Compression test will tell you have if you have blown head gasket.
