2001 v70 Check engine light & squeal from throttle body

Don't laugh at me, but i am a 56 year old female that has spent about $5000 on my 2001 Volvo V70 T5 (70,000 miles) in the last year. New transmission, etc. I know that several things in my car have been done twice in the last few years because of my ignorance. Now, I am trying to learn about Volvo repairs. I have a check engine light and a siren (whistling) sound coming from what I think is the throttle body (again...don't laugh). Also, about 5 seconds after the car is turned off, you can hear what sounds like the valve closing. Can you guys give me a heads-up about what that might be.

The whistling sound may be a loose vacuum hose or possible a faulty manifold gasket.
You might have a garage person spray around the throttle body and listen for surging.

No laughing here, JP. We had Nurse Amy fixing her Volvo during last trimester and she got a lot of respect here!!

There is a lot of stuff crammed under the hood and on top of it we use acronyms to describe most if it.

I think your car is a turbo (T5) so the electronic throttle body (ETB) will be buried under the intake manifold on the right side, about 6 inches back from the radiator. Noises , clunks, whistles from this are part of operation but not a constant whistle.

There are a lot of vacuum hoses that run around and any one of them can get loose and whistle.

Get a 2 foot piece of tubing or hose ( the colour must match your car) and go out early and use it like a stethoscope to see if you can isolate where the noise is coming from...cell phone pic and post here

Do the hose trick early in the morning so your neighbors don't have you committed.

Ok the hose colour doesn't really have to match, but it should at least be in season.
